How could anyone actually advice “YOU” what are the things that “YOU” should blog about? Perhaps you have seen those articles where they would list some vague topics and categories that “THEY” have handpicked for “YOU” and everyone else who manages to reach their page.
Here, we are taking a different approach and instead of spelling out the topics for you, we will guide you through a general approach to overcome this “writer’s block” and brainstorm yourself with new blog ideas.
Don’t just passionately write about something, step up and turn your passion into an income source.
There is a strategy that you will have to follow – find the keywords that are related to your niche.
Eg: “free templates” is a quite vague keyword, it could attract traffic that are looking for “free templates for wordpress”, “free templates for website”, “free templates for word 2007” etc. as you can see there could be billions of blogs competing for that particular keyword and therefore your article would rank so far down in the search engine that nobody would be able to reach it.
On the other hand if you be more specific like “free templates for blogspot with floating sidebar and blue background”, the likelyhood of such a term being searched is very low, that’s why blogger’s need to know the basics of keyword research( the first lesson of Search Engine Optimization),
We use
Google’s Keyword Tool, but you can use any other tool as well, If you can afford a paid tool, you could use
WordTracker as well. Generate a list of keywords by using the main categories of keyword that you can think about writing.
Once you have a list of keywords, shortlist those topics based on the competition. Analyze the search results of the short listed keywords (it is time consuming), ideally you wouldn’t want to compete against sites which are already big players in that niche(e.g.: a site with High Google PageRank and domain name with all the keywords).
It does take time, but once you have decided on a niche, you can breathe a little easy. After a deep breath, you do some research(research is also a major part of blogging) and then start building your content around the keywords related to your niche, you will soon find out that getting the keywords is the easy part, writing great content based on these keywords requires another level of skill altogether.
To write search engine optimized pages, make sure you target different keywords on different posts, (at least you should group your keywords to a main group),
Make sure your keywords are in
- the title tag of the page
- the name of the page(or permanent link to the page)
- the header, preferably the H1 tags
- the name & alt attribute of your images
So, we’ll conclude by saying.. “make pages for people, not search engines”, however do optimize your pages for search engines.
